After completing 5 US tours between 2018 and 2019, along with countless writing and recording sessions, producer and guitarist Mathew McNamara is on the cusp of releasing his Sophomore record, Outsider, under the pseudonym Maadwest. This 11 song indie/rock LP showcases McNamara’s ability to create a pop rock anthem. From the opening track, ‘The Plains’, McNamara provides a full bodied, heartfelt vocal performance that reaches out to meet mountainous guitar riffs. Each song echoes the influence of old Irish ballads he grew up playing with his father. The record goes on to experiment with combining shoegaze and power pop with the dreamy song, Feel, whose lyrics are as haunting as they are heartbreaking. Outsider is McNamara’s attempt to bring Maadwest to a sonically diverse and expansive place. Drawing influence from bands he has toured along side such as; The Used, Thrice and Circa Survive, McNamara moves forward in his musical career with precise professionalism. To Maadwest, Outsider is what happens when you plummet headfirst into the reality of life’s most heartbreaking yet wonderful epiphanies.
